Call for Participation: 2nd Conference on Professional Knowledge Management: Experiences and Visions WM 2003 ------- Second Conference on Professional Knowledge Management Experiences and Visions 2 - 4 April 2003 http://wm2003.aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de/ Call for Participation Professional Knowledge Management is imperative for the success of enterprises. A decisive factor for the success of KM-projects is the co-ordination of elements such as corporate culture, enterprise organisation, human resource management and information and communication technology. The adequate alignment and balancing of these factors is currently little understood - especially the role of IT, which is often regarded only as an implementation tool, though it can be a driver by making new KM-solutions possible. The conference gathers representatives of practical and research fields in order to discuss experiences, professional applications and visions through presentations, workshops, tutorials and an accompanying industry-exhibition. The main focus of the conference is put on the realization of KM-strategies with the aid of innovative IT-solutions, such as the intelligent access to organizational memories, or the integration of business processes and KM. Also of interest are integral attempts of KM, dealing with questions of integration of people, organisations and IT. Keynote speakers are Prof. Gilbert Probst (University of Genf) and Prof. Matthias Jarke (RWTH Aachen). The conference features 11 workshops, which give the opportunity for a comprehensive discussion of various topics. Additionally, 8 tutorials on hot topics in knowledge management are offered. Recent industrial knowledge management solutions that have been successfully applied are demonstrated in an industrial session. Call for Papers: Second International Conference on Knowledge Capture (K-CAP 2003) C A L L F O R P A P E R S Second International Conference on Knowledge Capture K-CAP 2003 Sponsored by ACM SigArt Oct 23-25th, 2003 Sundial Resort, Sanibel Island, Florida, USA Tentative submission deadline: April 28th, 2003 http://sern.ucalgary.ca/ksi/k-cap/k-cap2003/ or http://www.k-cap.org/ Information in all forms is increasingly available, but using it effectively requires a range of technologies for representing, manipulating, and reasoning with information. These technologies comprise knowledge capture, the extraction of useful knowledge from vast and diverse sources of information and raw data. Driven by the demands for knowledge-based applications, and the unprecedented availability of information on the Internet, the study of knowledge capture has a renewed importance. Although there has been considerable work in the area of knowledge capture, activities have been distributed across several distinct research communities, principally knowledge engineering, machine learning, and natural-language processing. However, other fields study knowledge capture, too. For example, in planning and process management, mixed-initiative systems acquire knowledge about a user's goals by taking commands or accepting advice regarding a task. In addition, recent research with the Semantic Web includes work that tries to capture the knowledge associated with appropriately annotated web pages. All of these approaches are related in that they acquire information and organize it in knowledge structures that can be used for reasoning. They are complementary in that they use different techniques and approaches to capture different forms of knowledge. K-CAP 2003 will provide a forum in which to bring together disparate research communities whose members are interested in efficiently capturing knowledge from a variety of sources and in creating representations that can be useful for reasoning. We solicit high-quality research papers for publication and presentation at our conference. Our aim is to promote multidisciplinary research that could lead to a new generation of tools and methodologies for knowledge capture. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: ** Knowledge acquisition tools ** Advice taking systems ** Authoring tools ** Learning apprentices ** Knowledge engineering and modeling methodologies ** Knowledge extraction systems ** Knowledge management environments ** Mixed-initiative decision-support tools ** Knowledge-based markup techniques ** Acquisition of problem-solving knowledge Tentative submission deadline: April 28th, 2003 Our apologies if you receive duplicate copies of this announcement. Please forward this announcement to friends and collegues who may be interested. Call for Papers: IJCAI-03 Workshop on Ontologies and Distributed Systems Call for Papers IJCAI-03 Workshop on Ontologies and Distributed Systems August 9th, Acapulco Mexico Important Dates and Deadlines Deadline for the submission of papers: March 7th, 2003 Notification of acceptance/rejection: March 21st, 2003 Deadline for the receipt of camera-ready papers: May 23rd, 2003. The main purpose of this workshop is two-fold: 1. identify and discuss these new challenges as well as ways towards solutions in terms of stable infrastructure, advanced methods and professional tools. 2. discuss unconventional new ideas to cope with the new challenges that arise in distributed and weakly structured environments The workshop should be seen as an opportunity for comparing and discussing traditional and new methods for capturing, describing and using semantics descriptions of certain domains and to try to bridge gaps between the two where-ever necessary. Fundamental Issues One part of the workshop will be devoted to fundamental issues of ontological research. As such it will not be devoted to a specific application area, but will rather address more fundamental questions. The topics of interests include but are not limited to the ones listed below: - Ontology and Infrastructure - Methods and Algorithms - Tools and Systems Advanced Issues The second part of the workshop is devoted to less well explored topics that have come into focus recently as a response to the new problems we face when trying to use ontologies in a heterogeneous distributed environments. These environments include the use of ontologies in peer-to-peer and multi-agent systems as well as the semantic web. A couple of additional questions arise with respect to these environments. The topics of interest include but are not limited to: - Ontology Evolution - Ontology Coordination - Ontologies + Agent Systems Beyond contributions to the mentioned topics we strongly encourage work that tries to bridge the gap between traditional methods and techniques of building, and using ontologies and new approaches that have been developed in response of new challenges. The manuscripts submitted to WIAS are subjected to a rigorous review process handled by the Editors-in-Chief and designated Editorial Board Member(s). All manuscripts for consideration must be submitted electronically through an Electronic Submission Form, available from the Web Intelligence Consortium (WIC) homepage at http://www.wi-consortium.org (under "WIAS journal"). In order to facilitate the review process, authors are required to mark the topics (within the Electronic Submission Form) to which their submissions are most relevant. _________________________________________________________________ 10.
